Door Hanger Project

Way back in February, one of my sisters insisted I make her a winter-themed door hanger. She said she had something there during Fall, in Christmas and then again for Easter. But there was nothing for her to decorate her apartment door during winter.

Frankly, my little brain was not exactly flooded with ideas and I wasn't too keen on the concept. But, she insisted and of course, I relented to the challenge. (She is 10 years my senior and I grew up listening to her, LOL.)

Looking at one of my older cards, she picked an image from a Diamonds stamp. Good thing, because when Diamonds stopped producing stamps they started selling their images on CDs (on Ebay) and having this digital image meant I could re-size it to my needs.

In the end, this is what presented to my sister during her visit last month:



I had printed the digital image out three times. First I printed a 8 1/2 x 11 piece of glossy cardstock off my colour printer, with the sentiment (ready or not, it snows) in blue, on top. Then again in black on Georgia Pacific cardstock as well as on a regular piece of printer paper. I stamped the printer paper with a Denim Background stamp and cut out the gentleman's pants and the lady's skirt for paperpiecing it later. Then, I coloured the Georgia Pacific cardstock with Prismacolor Pencils and Gamsol.
After paper-piecing the denim pieces, I cut the entire Skating Couple out and 3D mounted it on the Glossy Cardstock.

To frame the piece, I used Bazzill Bling cardstock in Prince Charming Blue.

In the end, I adhered the entire thing on a slightly smaller piece of cardboard, to make it more stable. I also used a little silver string to hang the piece on the wall. My brother-in-law said he'd use a thumb tack for that, so I die-cut a larger snowflake that I blinged out with rhinestones, to cover the thumb tack.

They both were thrilled with the outcome and my sister asked me for a few more die-cut snowflakes to randomly put on the door, around the Door Hanger. I ended up giving her the supplies and she and her husband had a ball die-cutting, punching and decorating those themselves.
