Keeping it clean!

As I was cleaning some scuff marks off the walls in my stamp area recently, my eyes happen on a few very inky acrylic blocks. I had previously tried to wash them in the sink, but that was not very successful.

HOWEVER, as I was holding my trusty Mr Clean Magic Eraser in hand, I thought I'd try that and lo and behold, clean acrylic blocks - in no time, with very little effort!

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE. :)

Poinsettias for Dinner?

Before Christmas, I was searching the net, for innovative table setting ideas. When I came across this picture below, I immediately thought of my BossKut Poinsettia Die!

While I usually tend to stick to making cards only, I had a blast making these easy and cute 'napkin rings' for a Christmas dinner at ours.

I wasn't sure how well these things would hold up. But, thus far we have used them three times and I think I can safely put them away for further use next Christmas.

Let it Ribba!

A few weeks ago, my mates in South Carolina surprised me with an Ikea gift certificate for my birthday. Immediately, I thought of all kinds of things that I could get. However, after further reflection, I decided on the Ribba Picture ledge.

While I thought it was really cool for pictures, I wanted them for my stamp room, to house my Martha Stewart punches!

The Ribba Picture Ledge is available in two sizes and three colours. The one I wanted was the 45 1/4" in white. Exactly the one that was always out of stock at our new Ikea. They had plenty of the 21 5/8" in white, birch and black. But, several visits later, I finally found the longer ledge - and I pounced, LOL.
I was able to get four ledges, but as you can see, I only hung three, so far. They fit perfectly over my desk and I can easily see what punches I have. Brilliant! Perhaps, I will actually end up using them now, LOL.

The 'Cookie Bandit' was a free digital image on the Once Upon a Sketch Blog and I printed the sentiment off my computer. (Fonts used: Tempus Sans ITC and Scrap Cursive.)

A couple of friends stayed with us for two weeks and when I asked whether they wanted to stamp with me (in the second week), they jumped for joy. Their reaction surprised but delighted me and I could have never imagined that we'd spend as much time at my craft desk. Whenever they were not exploring the area, they wanted to make cards, LOL. That meant we often stayed up very (V-E-R-Y) late and both my friend and her 15 year old daughter made 20 cards, and matching envelopes, each.

They did not want to make duplicate cards, nor did they want the same as each other. That kept me pretty busy. I quickly had to come up with new ideas for each of their coloured images; mostly choosing and cutting papers for/with them and showing them how to use certain tools.

But, in between, I also managed to colour and finish a couple of cards. Here's one of them:

I coloured the image with both Copics and Prismacolor Pencils. Glossy Accents was added to the balloons for dimension and shine. The border was achieved with the 'Bubble Bath' (Punch Around the Page) Craft Punch from Martha Stewart.

I thought long and hard before finally purchasing this digi from Funky Kits. It was more than I would usually pay for a digi stamp, but eventually, I caved...

No buyer's remorse over here, because the image was a lot of fun to colour and sooo easy, too.

Eighteen!

A young friend of mine is turning eighteen today. In spite of a rather difficult childhood she is a lovely and responsible young woman whose smile can light up a room. She is studying to be a nurse and she loves horses. Since I did not have any suitable horse related stamps, I sent her this card:

The digi stamp is a Kenny K. download that I coloured with Copics. After I had scanned my card, I realized that the birthday girl's eyes are blue not brown, so I went back and changed that on my card. Thank goodness for the colourless blender pen! :)

Colouring hair is still a struggle for me, but I am not ready to give up yet.

As I was sending out this card, I couldn't help but look back on my own life and where I was at eighteen. It was then I met and fell in love with my husband, in fact. I was such a baby still, yet I fancied myself to be so grown up. But, that's what adolescence is all about, isn't it?

After a recent eye exam, all kinds of complications arose with my health insurance. The optician was sooo patient in dealing with them, I just had to make her a card.

She was completely surprised by the thought of someone having a stamp that related to spectacles. Poor, poor naive soul, LOL. I think she'd be absolutely floored if she saw many of our stamp collections and the many topics they cover, don't you? :)

Change of Pace

My favourite stamping style is simple, with a coloured image, usually. In my years of stamping I have found a groove and realized that I am not one for new techniques.

Hero Arts' 'reversed solid images' satisfy my 'need' to colour, as well as a quick and simple style.

For my card I used CG270 - Flower Bird Garden. Embossed in white on watercolour paper, then coloured with my peerless water colours. For the background I used the Country & Flowering Foliage Embossing Folder (657112) from Sizzix.

It kinda looks like silk painting. Not much of a different technique, maybe, but I certainly like the look.

Wild Ride!

What kind of a card do you send to a guy who rides motor cycles? The very butch, hardcore, manly kind, right?

Do you think the above card would qualify as butch and very manly? I highly doubt it, hehehe. Not to mention, I later realized the guy's bike was red, not blue. Moreover, I am not happy with my colouring AND I mailed the card far too late to actually arrive on time. But, it is what it is and I hope the recipient will like it anyway once it arrives in France. :)

Sometimes, the harder I try to make a card special, the more I fail. Perhaps, it is better to relax and just have fun than try too hard?

Have you missed me? If you have at all been wondering where I have been, wonder no more. Like everyone else, I've been part of the normal Christmas madness, LOL. It's rather hard to avoid it, isn't it?

Because I seem to be starting my Christmas cards later and later every year, the design and execution must be simple and straightforward, at this point.

• The felt penguins came ready assembled, 8 to a pack for 1 buck, at Joann's. Add to that the adorable 'knit' cards that were a Michaels find (steal), also in the Dollar aisle.

• Two 'mats' were cut out of green and white glitter paper, using both Spellbinder's Lacy Circles (S4-293) and the regular circle dies.

• For the little greenery, I used a trusty Martha Stewart punch.

Easy, peasy and thus, my first batch of cards is on its way to the post office.

Well, I am off to work on my next batch of cards....

Woohoo, I made my first Christmas/winter card this year!

It was so easy, with this glorious Satin Cutouts White Snowflakes Ribbon that I recently purchased from Hambo Stamps. Their lovely ribbons are on sale right now and I may just have to go back for the Satin Cutouts Holly and the Orange Leaves and the..... Well, you get the idea. :)

I had not done any white heat embossing on white paper for some time. Not until I came across THIS gorgeous card!

F6679 - Lovely Lily (from Impression Obsession) was heat embossed with white embossing powder and watercoloured with Adirondack Inks in Lettuce, Meadow, Wild Plum and Cloudy Blue.

Baby Shower

One of my friends in South Carolina is expecting her first baby (a boy) in September. I had already thought of the kind of card I would make for her, before the big day. In my mind, I had envisioned something with a pregnant lady.

However, when her friends were organizing a surprise shower for her (much sooner than I had ever anticipated), the idea for my card (and the time to make and send it) changed very quickly.

That's because everyone was asked to bring a children's book or two to the shower. Unfortunately, I couldn't go to South Carolina to join the celebration, but I was able to contribute a couple of books and thus this card seemed appropriate. Even more so, when one of my books was "Brown Bear, Brown Bear". A huge coincidence, but very welcome, in my book (pun intended).

I hope the baby shower was a huge success and the mom-to-be went home with a whole trunk full of books.

You're not experiencing a Déjà Vu, I have indeed posted a very similar card last year, made entirely with punches.

.

On this one, I used some green paper napkin for the lettuce, rather than a punch. I bunched the paper up and pressed it into a green ink pad, for a little more dimension. Oh, and I also punched a few holes in the cheese, LOL.

For the envelope, I used part of an old stamp from The Peddler's Pack. It's RN1086F - Whopper Love Affair.

You're The Tops

My cousin's daughter (does that make her my second cousin?) received her MBA on Friday and I was invited to celebrate. Obviously, that meant, I quickly had to make a card. Having only one sole graduation stamp in my entire collection made the choice much easier, LOL.

Because I dreaded colouring the graduation gown, I waited to do it last, and that was a BIG mistake. Next time, I shall start with the most challenging part. It's prolly best if I don't mention how long it took me to colour this entire stamp.

Although, I had coloured the rest of the image with my Copics, I lacked the confidence to do the gown. Too much black scared me. So, I figured I'd dust off my Prismacolour Pencils and the Gamsol for that. As usual, I tried to accent the deeper shades by using a marker and a Niji waterbrush. ONLY, I forgot that I was using Georgia Pacific Paper. NOT the right paper to use water on. OOOPS, not good at all.

I really wanted to print the digi stamp out a second time, re-colour the gown and paper-piece it. But there wasn't time. So, after the paper had dried completely, I attempted to salvage the piece by going over it again with pencil and Gamsol.

The end result wasn't what I had hoped for, but it simply had to do.

Oh, and yes, I realized at the last minute that I had neglected to colour the band around the scroll and I quickly corrected that.

• 37-1131 - Congrats Cuttlebug Embossing Folder
• The text was computer generated

Good Morning Sweet Peas!

At 5 1/2 x 5 1/2 inches, this card is quite a bit larger than the ones I normally tend to make. The pre-scored, textured, purple card was perfect though, for this larger stamp.

90423 - Sweet Peas is from Stamps Happen and I coloured it with my brand new Derwent Inktense watercolor pencils.

Enormous Fun!

Apparently, the intent of buying stamps is to actually use them. A concept that seems pretty foreign to me. I buy, buy, buy rather than use, use, use my stamps, LOL.

HOWEVER, I have finally found my way into the craft room this past week and made a couple of cards. Here's the first one!

I coloured 'Rosie Dance', a digital image from Karen's Doodles with Copic Markers, then added lots of sparkle with Stickles Glitter Glue. After cutting the cute border on the background paper (with a Martha Stewart punch), I also added a bit of bling with small Gem Stones.

The cardstock I used is Bazzill Bling, which I loooove for their shimmer.

There you have it, friends, a very pink and very girly card that I happen to like enormously. Hope you like it, too.

I stamped, people, I stamped!!

The hardest part about making this card was finding my vellum, LOL. I had put it away so well, I nearly did not find it.

This card is quite straight forward, as most of my creations are. I stamped and heat embossed 'Flower Fields' with Detail Gold Embossing Powder on a shimmery piece of paper that has gold flecks in it. Then I watercoloured the image with reinkers. While that was drying, I stamped 'Bouquet of Good Wishes' on vellum.

At this time, dh came into the room and he suggested I tuck the ends of the vellum around the card front, rather than overlapping the piece, attaching it with brads. The whole thing was then glued to a card of the same lovely shimmer paper. Sometimes, hubby has pretty good ideas, I think. I quite like how it turned out.

Thanks to Sue Nelson, I have another card for you lovely people today. For some reason, I have not stamped in weeks. Whazzup with that? I am not sure. Perhaps, because my time has been pre-occupied with gardening and beading (I just learned how to knot) lately.

This past weekend, it rained, and it rained, and it rained... Many areas were flooded, there was lots of hail, funnel clouds and tornado watches to boot. Frankly, I was prepared to stay in for two days and stamp my heart out. But, that never happened. :)

So thanks Sue, once again, for such a cheerful and happy card!

Wild Flowers

Whenever I need a sympathy card, I tend to reach for my simple flower stamps.

I stamped and heat embossed the image on black card stock with white embossing powder. After matting it in white, I adhered it to a black card that is actually white on the inside.
